Kate Winslet’s Chelsea apartment for rent at $30,000 a month
by Luxury.Net
A handful of actresses carry such a wellspring of inner grace and presence that they appear destined for celebrity from birth. Natalie Wood had it, as did Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly; many would doubtless place Kate Winslet among their ranks. Kate Winslet bought the property in 2001 for just £380,000 as a bolt hole for her then husband film director Sam Mendes and their daughter. After their split, the couple eventually sold Castle Minor to an ex-pat living in America for £700,000. Rough sleepers were known to have bedded down in the building. When built, Castle Minor in Tintagel, Cornwall, was one of the first in Britain to have electric lighting. This duplex penthouse at the Eagle Warehouse building, a 12-unit condominium that has only three lofts per floor, comes complete with 12 oversized corner windows, 11-foot ceilings, four lavish bedrooms, five bathrooms decked with floor-to-ceiling limestone, and a 1,700 square foot terrace.
The no-frills brick building is situated in the heart of the gallery district and is pretty much close to the High Line.
Sam Mendes who recently directed Daniel Craig as James Bond in ‘Skyfall’ and earlier directed his ex-wife Kate Winslet in ‘Revolutionary Road’ transferred his interest in the apartment to her, which could also mean the actress has plans to remain in New York City.
