Modern Luxury Acquires Aspen
by Luxury.Net
Shocking but true. Most recently, Modern Luxury, the well known publisher of 40 titles in 12 cities, has acquired Aspen magazine. As per the information, Aspen publishes six times per year. It was founded in 1974 by Ernie Ashley. Aspen is being edited by Janet O’Grady, who maintains her role.
Alan Klein, who is the group publisher of Modern Luxury, has said in a statement that, “I have been fortunate to know Janet since she purchased the magazine more than 20 years ago and have continued to be amazed by the stories she has broken and the overall quality of the product.” Alan also added that, “Janet has developed a brand that is recognized across the U.S. for its ability to attract the attention of some of the most important and influential people in the country.”
For the last few months Aspen was suffering a lot. Rumors of problems at the publication had been escalating for some time, particularly after one key staffer left for another job and the magazine vacated its longtime downtown Aspen offices. The last-minute cancellation of the midsummer issue left some advertisers scrambling for placement in other local magazines. The announcement of takeover has been made on the very first day of October 2012. On the other hand, Janet O’Grady proclaimed that, “I’m excited to be part of a company that is bullish on great content and print, and is staying ahead of the curve in integrating print with digital platforms in these game-changing times.”
Recently, Aspen Magazine’s website is still functioning, though with outdated content. Modern Luxury’s website include a link to Aspen Magazine content within its template and a link on the homepage that reads: “Visit our newest location, Aspen!” Viewers can go to the site by just clicking once on that particular link.
