Katana: The Most Expensive in the World
The Japanese Katana was a far later sword. In fact in Japan prior to 987AD swords were short and of the the chokutō type. Japan imported it’s Sword making from China. Technically, a katana is any Japanese sword with a single edge. In practice, however, the word is almost exclusively used to describe the long, slightly curved sword used by samurai from the Muromachi period onward. Katanas are surrounded with mythic resonance and some few swordsmiths, such as Muramasa and Masamune, have become more famous than the warriors who wielded their creations.
An authentic Samurai sword, hand made in Japan can easily cost US$12,000 to $25,000 and up. Chinese made production level approximations are typically at least $1,000-$2,500 for something reasonably traditional.
Qin Shi Huang’s tomb has not been excavated and radar analysis and atmospheric analysis survey data is not available to the public as yet. What is known is that the interior atmosphere is filled with mercury which tends to tally with the extant descriptions given in various texts written around 100 years after his death.
Probably the worlds most valuable sword at present is the Jeweled Sword of the British Monarchy, part of the Crown Jewels it will never be sold. The most expensive sword sold was an Ancient Arab Sword once owned by Napoleon, this fetched 6.4 million US Dollars when it was sold.
